FinClear participates in the ASIC Annual Forum 2023

It was great to see David Ferrall join the plenary panel discussion at the ASIC forum in Melbourne this week. During this session, fellow panelists Calissa Aldridge from ASIC, Marnie Reid from Computershare and Tony Mackay from XB Market Ventures, discussed how market participants and regulators are harnessing technology.

ASX CHESS replacement may be some way off but, in the meantime, competition must be encouraged through both common interoperability standards and more importantly encouraging innovation and competition in a ‘proportional’ manner. Our market is potentially not large enough to support another ASX lookalike, but the capability exists to encourage competition via other avenues.

Six plus years (2029?) is a long time in tech development/innovation lifecycles – regulators must be encouraged to support innovation in the interim that can deliver better and more efficient investor and issuer solutions. More about the forum and this subject in the AFR.
